About Thorn Cross Prison

Thorn Cross Prison is a Category D facility with a strong focus on education, skills development, and preparing individuals for successful reintegration into society. The prison offers a wide range of training and vocational courses, including construction crafts, horticulture, hospitality and catering, and rail construction (NVQ Level 2).

Through partnerships with national and local employers, Thorn Cross provides opportunities for work placements both during custody and on release, helping residents gain practical experience and build confidence. The prison’s approach combines structured learning with real-world application, ensuring individuals leave with skills, knowledge, and motivation to contribute positively to their communities and workplaces.
